In the wake of Jerry Garciaās death, the remaining members of the Grateful Dead pursued a variety of projects: The Other Ones, The Dead, Phil & Friends, RatDog, The Rhythm Devils and, now,Ā Furthur. Led by Grateful Dead co-foundersĀ Phil LeshĀ andĀ Bob Weir, Furthur is positioned to become the most successful and well-received post-Garcia band yet. As the 30th anniversary ofĀ Bob MarleyāsĀ passing nears,Ā RelixĀ looks back on the reggae legendās last concert in Pittsburgh on September 23, 1980. Through interviews with family members and bandmates, writerĀ Wes OrshoskiĀ offers an intimate portrait of the international iconās final stand.
The Decemberists: A New Spring
For its sixth album, Portland, Ore.āsĀ The DecemberistsĀ created an Americana masterpiece. Once again working producerĀ Tucker Martine, the quintet, fronted by songsmithĀ Colin Meloy, calls on the talents of Americana luminariesĀ Gillian WelchĀ and R.E.M. guitaristĀ Peter BuckĀ to help deliver the groupās most accessible and well-crafted record yet.
G. Love: A Case of the Blues
After a chance meeting in Boston and a weekend of bonding at moe.ās Summer Camp festival,Ā G. LoveĀ andĀ The Avett BrothersĀ forged a friendship based around their mutual love of back road blues. The end result is G. Loveās new blues-based effortĀ Fixinā to DieĀ which Scott and Seth Avett performed on and produced.Ā RelixĀ catches up with G. Love in Colorado to find out how he created his most sincere and candid work to date.
